“Fantasies” by Metric

Album: Fantasies
Artist: Metric

Borderlining between dance-pop and dream rock, Metric’s Fantasies plays out like a multifaceted memento. On the surface, the smooth production disguises the dirty fuzz of the instrumentation. Looking deeper, the lyrics paint the dreams a shade darker. Themes of fear, regret, dissatisfaction and risk taking reveal the personal side of this fantasy. Though it never brings the mood towards nightmarish.

Fantasies comes in at 42 minutes, but feels like a daydream wherein that it feels a lot longer. There isn’t anything on this album that hasn’t already been done before, but as far as Metric’s past albums are concerned this is by far their most polished and concentrated.
