Music Artist Spotlight – 02/15

Goon Moon

Like Queens of the Stone Age? Nine Inch Nails? Then you’re in luck, because this group features Chris Goss and Jeordie White. Goss, known for his work with Queens of the Stone Age and Jeordie more commonly known as “Twiggy” from Marilyn Manson, form the dynamic duo at the center of this band. Zach Hill (Hella, Team Sleep) joins on as drummer and a few special guests fill out the roster.

Goon Moon has two albums out, the first is called “I got a brand new egg layin machine” and is the most experimental of the two. The songs range from simple rock arrangements to the extremely bizzare noise tracks. Their second and most recent album, “Lickers Last Leg” is the most accessible and is where you should start off. The songs have a 60’s rock experimentation feel to them, some songs matching the feel of the band Roxy Music. Goss and White trade vocal duties and more often than not both voices are heard at the same time.

Goon Moon isn’t for everyone, but for those that do enjoy it will find vast soundscapes, tight production values, and occasionally disturbing lyrics.
